Young Retailer of the Year Programme
Each year, the North American Retail Hardware Association hosts the Young Retailer of the Year Programme in conjunction with the NRHA Convention. The programme highlights young, aspiring hardware retailers and honours them for outstanding achievement as owners and managers of independently owned hardware and building supply stores in the United States and Canada. The purpose of the programme, now in its 14th year, is to recognise outstanding performance and encourage talented young people to pursue a career in the retail hardware business. To date, the program has honoured 100 young retailers.
In 2011 this programme is open to all IHA member organisations and you are invited to contact NRHA as soon as possible to let them know if you are planning to bring a Young Retailer to Las Vegas to be honoured. NRHA will provide a complimentary registration and hotel accommodations for the honouree and partner; your obligation as the IHA member will be to provide transportation.
The Award will focus on all of the personal and professional activities and accomplishments of the nominee. NRHA encourages you to submit any information that demonstrates the success of the nominee. The judging is based on the nominee's performance. Judges will consider accomplishments in the following categories: High points of career, community involvement, hardware education and bonus activities.
The British Hardware Federation has been able to attract AKZO Nobel as a sponsor for the Young Retailer of the Year Award and will be promoting the national competition in their trade press magazines. The winner’s name and company will be announced at the 2011 DIY Show and the winner with a partner will then go on to be honoured at the IHA Congress in Las Vegas May 2011. There will also be runner up prizes of attendance places to their national Retail Summer School.
At the Council meeting in May this year it was agreed that an IHA member organisation in partnership with an exhibition might wish to stage an International event in 2012. Suggestions included a meeting or dinner not necessarily a big or expensive programme but an opportunity to gather national representative for part of a day to discuss or consider a specific opportunity or problem.
